Two-linked Disks

Aug 3 2024

A plaque-shaped ornament featuring three perforated disks, linked vertically in an abstract design. The jade is predominantly yellow but has partially turned brown with age. All edges are smoothly modeled, and the surfaces are highly polished. The disks are slightly rounded with gently curving outer and inner edges, and the periphery of the entire piece is as thin as a blade. The inner holes are honed into a slope using a round hoe technique, giving it the characteristic Hongshan Culture style. A comparable example was found in Tomb No. 21, within the No. 1 stone mound at Niuheliang. This type of multi-disk design is much rarer compared to single-holed annuli.
