Tubular-shaped Bead

Aug 9 2024

A tubular-shaped bead that is biconically pierced and modeled symmetrically. Originally green, the jade has turned brown over time. The bead was made through trumpet-shaped drilling, with smooth polishing throughout its entire body. It was likely used in a necklace. The inside of the hole shows traces of drilling, and the surface slightly bulges. One end is roughly flush, reflecting the typical style of Hongshan Culture. A precedent for this Hongshan tubular bead may be the jade excavated at the Xinglongwa site of Chahai in Fuxin, Liaoning province. Similar beads have also been found at neolithic sites in Korea, such as Gangseo-gu, Busan, and in the tombs of the Shilla Dynasty.
