Sojeon Son Jae-hyung (素荃 孫在馨, 1922-2011) was a master of modern Korean art, primarily active in the fields of abstract painting and calligraphy. Since the 1940s, he has showcased original works that blend traditional Korean calligraphy with Western abstract art, paving a new path for Korean art. Better known by his pen name, Sojeon, he reinterprets Korean aesthetics in a modern context through lines, colors, and empty spaces. His artistic achievements continue to inspire many to this day, playing a significant role in the history of modern Korean art.
As the saying goes, *Hwa Nan Hwa Hyang* (畵蘭難畵香), “One may paint an orchid (蘭), but it is difficult to paint its fragrance (香).”
