Plaque

Sep 6 2024

A fin-shaped plaque with two small perforated holes, each located at the upper corners. The plaque features an elliptical contour, its surface adorned with five sets of double parallel lines. The outer surface of each set is finely ground, creating five raised patterns through a wide cymbal-like technique. The edge is sharply tapered, resembling the delicate trim of toothed beast-like jade, incorporating partially curved hooks and serrated designs. The once-prominent protrusions on the surface have gradually flattened and now seamlessly merge into the plaque’s structure. These embossed features reflect the characteristic style of Hongshan Culture. Similar artifacts can be found in the “hook” cloud-shaped jade collection at the Aohan Prehistory Museum, with a closely related relic excavated at Niuheliang Site No. 3.
