This relatively small jade sculpture depicts a phoenix, a rare motif in Hongshan Culture compared to the more commonly found dragon-shaped artifacts. The jade is primarily green, with parts of it displaying a brownish hue, adding a natural contrast to the piece. On the back of the sculpture, there are eight holes arranged in pairs, a feature that may have been used for mounting or attaching the piece in ancient times.
Phoenix sculptures in Hongshan Culture are considered much rarer than their dragon counterparts, making this artifact a significant and unusual find. Its delicate form and careful detailing reflect the craftsmanship of the period, while the natural color variations in the jade add to its aesthetic appeal.
