This remarkable pair of holed annuli is crafted from green jade, with portions naturally transitioning to a brown hue over time. The inner holes are perfectly circular, while the outer edges are sharply defined, honed to a flat surface. The thickness of the jade gradually tapers from the center towards both the inner hole and the outer edge, which is as thin as a blade—characteristic of Hongshan Culture jade craftsmanship.
While holed annuli are typically found as solitary items, they are occasionally discovered in pairs, as seen with this example. A comparable holed annulus was unearthed from the chest of an entombed body in Seokam-ri, encased within a wooden panel. This site is located in Pyeongyang on the Korean Peninsula. Similar artifacts have been excavated from numerous tombs at Niuheliang, further emphasizing their cultural significance.
