Lee Gap-seong (October 23, 1889 – March 25, 1981) was a Korean independence activist who, as one of the 33 national representatives, signed the Declaration of Independence during the March 1st Movement. After the 1931 Singanhoe incident, he fled to Shanghai, where he continued his involvement in the independence movement. In 1940, he was imprisoned due to his involvement in the Heungeop Club incident. Yi steadfastly resisted Japanese oppression during the colonial period, notably refusing to adopt a Japanese name under the *sōshi-kaimei* policy. After Korea’s liberation, he served as the chairman of the Independence Promotion National Association, playing a significant role in Korea’s establishment and political landscape. In 1962, the South Korean government awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation (Presidential Medal) in recognition of his contributions.
