Jade Animal Face

This artifact is commonly referred to as a “jade animal face” (玉獸面).

Lee Chan-gu claims it represents a “bear” because of its upright ears,

while Bai wei (柏岳) refers to it as a “jade bat face” (玉蝠首). In the book *Research on Hongshan Culture Jade Artifacts* ,

it is classified as a bird carving, whereas Xu Qiang (徐强) identifies similar artifacts as a “jade sheep head” (玉羊首), and Yang Boda (楊伯達) suggests it represents a “jade pig face ornament” (玉猪面牌飾).
