This exquisite artifact, crafted from moss-green jade, has aged over time, resulting in subtle variations in its coloration. The piece, rounded yet rectangular in form, features finely honed flat edges, typical of Hongshan culture’s skilled craftsmanship. The central elliptical hole, created using a wide boring technique, reveals a thin, blade-like edge. The artifact’s surface is slightly raised, with the inner and outer rims remaining flat and delicate. Uniquely, two perforated lacing holes are found above the main aperture, enhancing its rarity and function.
Holed squares like this are significantly rarer than their annular counterparts. A similar example was uncovered at the renowned No. 16 site in Niuheliang, underscoring its cultural and historical significance.
