Gwak Jong-seok (1846-1919) was a scholar and independence activist during the Korean Empire period. When the Eulsa Treaty was forcibly concluded, he submitted a petition calling for the punishment of the Five Eulsa Traitors, and he served a prison sentence for delivering a petition for independence to the Paris Peace Conference. This small letter holds great significance as it is the first piece in Dr. Koo Bon-jin’s collection of independence movement artifacts.
