Choi Seung-hee (1911–1969) was a legendary Korean dancer and choreographer who gained great fame for her unique style, blending traditional Korean dance with modern dance. She can be considered a pioneer of the Korean Wave (Hallyu). Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, she was active in Korea and Japan, contributing to the reinterpretation of traditional dance and the creation of new dance works. Choi studied modern dance under Baku Ishii during her studies in Japan and later established the Chosun Dance Institute, where she trained many disciples. Her notable works include “Dance of Korea,” “Fan Dance,” and “Sword Dance,” which showcase the essence of Korean dance.

Choi received numerous awards for her artistic contributions and was recognized on international stages, successfully completing several overseas performances.
