This small sculpture depicts a beast with two prominent horns rising from its head. The jade is brown with alternating black splotches, a rare color for artifacts from the Hongshan Culture. While the sculpture is unable to stand upright on its own, holes are pierced beneath the armpits and between the legs, suggesting its possible use as a pendant or ornament. Though the sculpture is not tall and the horns are relatively short, it exudes a sense of dignity, with a well-balanced and robust form that highlights the craftsmanship of the period.
