A Pair of Pinwheels

Oct 1 2024

This pair of ornaments, reminiscent of modern fidget spinners—therapeutic tools for children with ADHD and Autism—is crafted from moss-green jade with areas of whitening. The artifact features a circular body adorned with a distinctive three-striped pattern. The main body is shaped like a round cymbal, while the outer part is meticulously carved with beak-like cuts to form curved, slope-like openings and three obliquely inserted ridges. The outer region of the round plaque is simple, slightly raised, and plumped. The surface is subtly elevated, with the inner and outer edges remaining flat and thin. This design embodies the typical craftsmanship of Hongshan Culture jade artifacts.
