A Pair of Axes

Jul 31 2024

A pair of polished, lenticular axe heads with perforations. These axe heads are evenly thin-bodied with flat sides, a straight top, and a slightly pointed blade edge that curves outward. Made of yellow jade with brown inclusions, the middle section is the thickest, tapering slightly toward the sides. Each has a perforation near the top, with the blade edge positioned at the bottom. The lower the perforation, the wider the axe’s base becomes. Given the matching jade material and similar size, these two axe heads appear to have been crafted as a pair. Comparable examples can be found in Aohan Prehistory Museum.
